The music you're about to hear comprises the latest in independent music, most of which you'll never hear on commercial radio or on CDs. The songs are selected from the QQ MP3 Zone, which has the latest in local MP3 downloads. The QQ MP3 Zone is a partneship with powerzone.co.za, the No 1 Web destination for South African music.

How Radio QQ works

Radio QQ is a streaming media station. In order to listen to it you must have a copy of the Windows Media Player. Need the player? Go to www.microsoft.com and get it.

You also need a soundcard and speakers attached to your PC.

Radio QQ songs have been optimised for low bandwidth delivery using the latest encoding technology, but the quality will really depend on your ISP.

M-Web susbcribers will get the best experience because M-Web is the only ISP in SA that has a multicast-enabled network. In addition, Radio QQ is hosted at most major M-Web POPs, so the station is beamed directly back to subscribers without them having to "fetch it" off the Net. It sits right at the "edge" of the M-Web network.

For all other users, Radio QQ has a streaming media server situated at the main SA Internet peering point in Johannesburg. This will help improve the signal quality, but bear in mind you will be "pulling" the radio station (unicast distribution) because your network/ISP is not multicast enabled.
